About Us
When I began rock climbing and mountaineering in the early 1970’s I knew I had found an activity that would last me a lifetime. There would be no footballer’s dodgy knees or rugby players dislocated shoulders to shorten the activity timespan. Instead I found an activity that exercised my body and mind in a holistic way as well as opening opportunities to travel all over the globe in search of crags and mountains. Better still I met with many like-minded spirits who are still my friends today.
After a career in academia that only allowed me to escape into a parallel universe in the mountains during holidays and weekends I’m now in a position to immerse myself fully in my lifelong passion of rock climbing, mountaineering and hill walking. And I want to do that with others who share the passion and have the maturity to enjoy the activities for what they really are – a way to engage in nature and social interaction through healthy activity.
This is the essence of Classic Adventure. Aimed at the mature adult with a spring still in their step. I’ve got the necessary ‘tickets’ to encourage that spring in a safe manner, the Mountain Instructor Award, Mountain Leader - Summer, Winter and International.
As for other important bits, I’m happily married to Sarah and we live in Cumbria. We enjoy the company of Sarah’s 3 children as often as their busy, 'adult' lives allow. And we like to spend time with Sarah’s parents in their Northumberland idyll.
Hi, I'm Sarah. Meadow View has three guest bedrooms and I offer Bed and Breakfast accommondation from here. Each room has an ensuite showerroom, with, I'm told, the best showers in the world! You can find more details by clicking the Classic Accommodation link at the top of the page
My favourite current activities are Open Water Swimming, cycling, hill walking and running and Nordic Skiing. Dan and I met in 2006 years ago during a ski touring trip in Norway and since then I've expanded my outdoor activity range to include more high level walking, a little warm rock climbing and mountain biking.
I love the idea of Classic Adventure and I'm sure I'm not the only person for whom the great outdoors has opened up opportunities after they have brought up their families and they are not quite in their thirties!
I'm the newest member of team Classic Adventure, having met Dan and Sarah on a cross country ski trip to Norway. I absolutely love the outdoors having started walking in the Lake District in my school days. I'm excited to be able to share my passion for being outside with others, the hills offer us all a chance to challenge ourselves, find those intangible moments in life, embrace some silence and appreciate the unique beauty of the British lanscape. When I'm not walking I enjoy fell running, mountain biking and climbing. My other big loves are tea, cake, real ale, malt whisky, dogs and books. I'm also a self confessed gear junkie and will not admit publicly to how many waterproof coats or rucksacks I own!
